Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all the mommies out there had a wonderful Mother's Day. I don't get my expectations high for the day considering any number of things can go horribly wrong when you have small children. Last Father's Day I spent the day with my head in a toilet which was a great way to tell Tom how much he means to us. A card, a "happy mother's day mom," a small craft, and some coffee in peace are all I really hope for. Honestly, if someone just says "thanks for all you do mom," my day is made.

This weekend my family far exceeded my expectations. Friday we packed it up and headed up to the lake for the first time this spring. It was pouring rain, the top carrier and I had a disagreement, and Luke slept for all of 20 minutes in the car but we made it there in one piece and around Quakertown I stopped cursing.

Seeing lake house again is like picking up a favorite book and remembering exactly where you left off. No catch up necessary. We walked in and it was as if we never left. The kids were excited but Luke wasn't exactly sure why. Grace most certainly remembered it but Luke never took one step there all last year. He was feeding off of Grace's wild excitement. Among the big changes at lake house are a new set of bunk beds. After persuading Tom that Grace would be fine, we agreed she could sleep on the top bunk. Luke was still doomed for the pack and play and that could have gone better. Hopefully with more usage, he'll get used to it and sleep a bit later than 5am.

Among my many gifts this weekend was lots of time on water with Grace--my kayaking buddy; two mornings of sleeping in; a few chapters in a Janet Evanovich book; a delicious steak; 2 wonderful runs; a trip to one of my favorite stores to visit some dining tables; and plenty of walks around the lake. My ever attentive husband spoiled me (as usual) with lots of other goodies too.

Here's some pictures from the weekend:

Can you sense the excitement for camp fire? But Luke got bored and decided to pick some flowers instead
Whoa--watch out for that breeze!
Adorable. I know it!
Adorable for other reasons. . . How many marshmallows are in his mouth right now?
