Day 2 of Camp

Waiting patiently to help

Checking out the tadpole chart

At the pond looking for frogs and tadpoles

Digging through the muck

We found some!

Our theme for the day was pond study. The Center has a very teeny, tiny pond--just the right size for Grace. Before we headed to the pond, our teacher explained to us how lots of animals use the pond for survival. She laid out a big piece of felt and the kids got to put the animals and critters on it as we discussed them. Grace was VERY interested in being a teacher's helper and patiently waited her turn. She eventually got bored and kept handing the "sun" to me but she hung in there longer than most.

We then headed to the pond in search of tadpoles and whatever else we could find. The kids were really excited and all the mothers nervous theres would be the kid who fell in. I wisely dressed Grace in overalls which have a handy "grab in emergency" system built right in. The teacher scooped lots of muck into a container and sure enough there were tadpoles in there. Grace was pretty excited and me too--I had never seen a tadpole before. All of the kids really got into digging through the muck with their plastic spoons to see what they could find. Most of the kids also tried to sample their spoons causing the moms to comment that they'll stick muck in their mouth with a spoon but not applesauce.
