The class had to wait a week before the eggs hatched. It was a very exciting week filled with talk of farms, animals, and farms, and animals. When we arrived at school on Tuesday we saw one of the teachers beaming as she announced "It's as if I gave birth!" We ran up to see the new chicks.
For reasons unknown to me, Grace absolutely lost it when we saw the chicks. She had a meltdown of monumental proportions. This, however, did not stop Luke from slowly squatting down, curiously looking in, and announcing "CHICKS!" He was thrilled to see them and screeched with laughter whenever they peeped. I later learned from Grace that the chicks came out on a mat and they got to pet them with two fingers. I asked if they were soft but apparently she was more interested in sharing the news that one chick pooped--it was green. Interesting, huh?
This week the chicks go back to the farm for some deserved R&R.
I can only imagine what life for them is like with all those kids on them day after day.
As always, some pictures of the experience:
